About Porcelain Veneers
In this procedure, a thin porcelain layer is added to the tooth surface and that can change the way the tooth looks. Veneers are made specifically for a patient’s teeth and that includes every aspect of the tooth including shape, color, and size.
Veneers can be used cosmetically but are also used in restorative dentistry. They are less cumbersome than getting a crown and are a great way to avoid replacing the tooth with an implant.
Porcelain veneers can be used to address old restorations, chipping, staining, an uneven smile, bite problems, crowing, and space issues.
Candidates for veneers must have good bone structure and healthy gums. Those who have teeth that are incredibly worn down may not be eligible for veneers because there isn’t enough tooth surface for the veneer for proper adherence.
Those with large tooth gaps may need orthodontics performed first. Teeth that are crowded or misaligned will also need orthodontics done before getting veneers.
What to Expect
The process of getting porcelain veneers isn’t complicated and a patient can usually have it completed in two visits. A Bentway dentist will first evaluate your teeth to make sure you are eligible for it and will perform any other necessary dental work first.
Your dentist will likely give you a local anesthetic to numb your mouth on both of your visits. Your first visit will include a thin layer of enamel being removed from your teeth. Then, impressions are made for the permanent veneer. You are fitted for a temporary restoration to see how they feel and look. Adjustments are made for the shape and color of the permanent fixture.
The temporary restoration is removed on the second visit. Your dentist puts on your permanent veneer using bonding glue.

The procedure can leave your teeth slightly sensitive to temperature but that will go away. There could be some soreness but an over-the-counter pain killer can manage that until you completely heal.
Veneers require the same oral care as your teeth like regular brushing, flossing, and routine dental exams to clean and evaluate them.
