Preventive Care

Preventive care is an important aspect of maintaining long-term dental health. Our dentists and staff at Bentway Dental Toronto work with you to make sure you are making the most of preventive care.

Our preventive dental services are things like digital X-rays, routine exams, regular cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants. We also provide education to children, teens, and adults about how to brush and floss properly.

Proper oral care is the one thing that can make a difference in tooth health later in life. Bad oral care can lead to gum disease and tooth loss so it’s important to start with preventive care as a child to ensure oral health.

The Importance of Routine Visits

Visiting your dentist regularly allows them to conduct oral exams and possibly catch any problems before they become serious. For instance, dentists may spot gingivitis in its beginning stages and offer immediate treatment. That can help prevent it from worsening or causing periodontitis.

Regular cleanings are also important as they remove plaque and tartar from teeth and promote healthier gums. Deep cleanings help in worse cases of plaque and tarter but aren’t considered to be preventive dentistry. They are defined as a general dentistry procedure, even though they help maintain long-term tooth health.

General Dentistry Procedure

Other preventive procedures available include fluoride treatments and using dental sealants. Flouride treatments result in minerals fusing into decaying areas of tooth enamel, preventing tooth decay.

Dental sealants, a thin plastic sheet, prevent teeth from being damaged by bacteria and food debris. They are usually placed on the grooves of the back teeth, which are used more for chewing. It protects teeth from decay and is helpful for those who have ongoing decay issues.
